The Youth Legal Innovation Pilot Project is AFPLAW’s flagship initiative. Led by senior legal experts but powered by young Nigerians, this 12-month pilot will demonstrate the model: pairing trained youth fellows and community paralegals with AFPLAW’s senior legal team to document violations, litigate strategic cases, and reform policy at the intersection of climate, health, and development.
Four Pillars
Where YIPLAA Focuses
Every fellow, case, and policy brief under YIPLAA sits within one of four thematic pillars.
Climate Justice
Securing remedies for communities harmed by climate-induced displacement and environmental damage.
Right to Health
Challenging gaps in healthcare access and holding public health failures to account.
Development Justice
Ensuring development projects don't displace, exclude, or harm the communities they claim to serve.
Digital Rights
Protecting the digital spaces where Nigeria's youth organize, speak, and hold power to account.

Why a Pilot, Why Now
Nigeria’s youth are already at the frontlines of climate, health, and development advocacy — often without legal training, institutional backing, or a seat at the policy table. YIPLAA closes that gap: senior legal experts mentor a first cohort of fellows and paralegals through real casework, building a replicable model that AFPLAW can scale to more states and more young Nigerians in the years that follow.
